Asteroid Orbits

The Minor Planet Center (MPC) database contains thousands of observations and orbit solutions for objects in our solar system. The MPC operates at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory as a body of the International Astronomical Union (IAU).We use data analytics in combination with specialized physical models to make sense of the data. The latest file contains over 600,000 orbit solutions for objects in our solar system. If we count them based on their average distance from the sun, we see that most objects are located in the asteroid belt. If we look just in the neighborhood of earth, we see several thousand small neighbors in our part of the solar system. We hope to share more of our analysis of this data publicly in the future.
